- About the artistWillem Elisa Roelofs was a landscape painter born in Amsterdam. He was taught by his father Willem Roelofs and the Academy of Arts in The Hague. In 1848 he moved to Belgium. He stayed a long time in Barbizon and is known as one of the realistic painter who renewed the landscape paintings. He was a member of the Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and the Pulchri Studio in The Hague.
