This rare early work, created during the Second World War, marks an important and art-historically significant moment in Bram Bogart's artistic development. The religious, figurative-abstract depiction of two nuns is exceptional within his oeuvre and shows how he gradually moves away from his early landscapes. The simplified forms, powerful contours, and expressive paint handling constitute an early prelude to the abstract visual language with which Bogart would later achieve international breakthrough.
