About the artist
Mary Alacoque Waters is a contemporary Irish painter who was born in London in 1957. She currently lives and works in Utrecht and Galway. In 1981 she graduated from the National College of Art and Design in Limerick. She is known for her portraits, inspired by iconic masters in Western Europe.
Waters is especially influenced by the realistic and naturalistic portraits of the Dutch Golden Age artists. Her monochromic or colourful figures usually set off a stark or geometric background. She exhibited at numerous art fairs and galleries in the Netherlands and abroad among others, Galerie Vous Etes Ici, Amsterdam, (2014), Art Rotterdam, Galerie Vous Etes Ici (2014), Art Miami, Galerie Piece Unique, Parijs (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), Art Dubai, Galerie Piece Unique, Parijs (2012), Art Brussels, Galerie Transit Mechelen Be (2006), Art Rotterdam, Galerie Arti Capelli (2005), Singer Museum Laren, solo (1997).
