He was educated at the Koninklijke Academie van Beelden Kunsten (Royal Academy of Fine Arts), The Hague. He also was taught to paint by his friend Hendrik Johannes Weissenbruch. Bauffe was a famous Hague landscapist (oil paintings and aquarelles). In 1900, he made a study tour to Barbizon. He was active in Kortenhoef, Renkum, Voorschoten, etc. A number of his works are in the Haags Gemeentemuseum; Frans Halsmuseum, Haarlem; Noortbrabants Museum, Den Bosch; Montreal Museum, Canada.
