Lambert Simon (Den Helder, 1909 – Nieuwegein, 1987) was a Dutch painter and draughtsman who distinguished himself with his sensitive depictions of landscapes, still lifes and cityscapes, often with a subdued tone and a keen eye for composition and atmosphere. His work exudes a certain tranquility and timelessness, in which technique and observational skills come together in a harmonious way.

Simon was educated at the Quellinus School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam and continued his studies at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. There he developed into a solid craftsman with a classical painting education as a basis. His style remained figurative, with a preference for a realistic approach that sometimes tended towards impressionism, especially in his light touch and natural use of colour.

During his career, Simon worked in various places in the Netherlands, where he was inspired by both urban and rural motifs. He had a preference for the everyday and the small gesture — a window frame, a row of trees, a forgotten street — and managed to capture a certain poetry in it. His paintings bear witness to a quiet attention to the surroundings, without the pursuit of effect.

Although Simon operated outside the major art movements of his time and never achieved national fame, he built up a loyal circle of enthusiasts and collectors in the region. His work was regularly exhibited in local galleries and art circles, where people appreciated his dedication to the craft and his sense of detail.
