  • About the artist

Andrea Padovani was born in Verona, Italy, in 1961. He studied political science at the University of Bologna, graduating in 1985. After working for a time as an accountant, he decided to change his career and focus entirely on art. He eventually moved to Canada, where he settled on Cortes Island, British Columbia.

Padovanani works primarily with oil paint on canvas, but also uses oil pastels, chalk, watercolor, ink, and mixed media. His style balances between contemporary and impressionistic, with a powerful and expressive use of color. His brushwork often appears wild and energetic, yet always remains controlled. He draws inspiration from great artists such as Van Gogh and Gauguin. Themes in his work are intimate and recognizable: domesticity, interiors, architecture, and especially the emotional significance of "home" as a symbol. He wants the viewer to connect directly and intuitively with the work, without the need for explanation.

His paintings have been exhibited worldwide, including in Italy, Germany, Canada, and the Netherlands. He has had solo exhibitions at venues including The Obsession of Art in Bergen, Harbour Gallery in Mississauga, and ArtsUmbrella in Vancouver. He has also participated in group projects and exhibitions at museums and art institutions. His work is included in international corporate collections and hangs in prestigious venues such as the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.

For Padovani, art revolves around the emotional core of existence: family, history, hope, and love. The canvas initially appears simple, but it carries within it a layered power and promise. His work invites us to physically experience the vibration and intensity—a meeting between painter and viewer that transcends words.
