Prof. Pieter Dupont (Amsterdam, 1870 - Hilversum, 1911) was a vooraanstaand Nederlands etser, tekenaar en graficus, die aan het begin van de 20e eeuw great faam genoot met zijn virtuoze prenten en tekeningen. Hij wordt beschouwd as one of the important vertegenwoordigers van de Nederlandse graphic art around 1900 and speelde aen sleutelrol in de herwaardering van de ets als volwaardige kunstvorm.
Dupont followed his work at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, which was also used as pictures. Al snel koos hij real awareness of the graphics, with the name of ets en drug naald, waarin hij a buitengewone beheersing ontwikkelde. This work is high on the door of technical perfection, it also has a good finish for composition, detail and depth.
Hij will be known with prentenreeksen waarin hij onderwerpen as couples, interiors, street pictures and portraits with great precision and levendigheid wist vast te leggen. With the name of the series “Paarden in the manege” in the sets of Paris and Bruges, there was a great ability to move, architect and character vast te leggen in a couple of meeting places.
In 1906, Dupont became a master in graphic art at the Rijksakademie, which was known as a new generation of art. Ondanks zijn vroege overlijden op slechts 40-jarige leeftijd liet hij an indrukwekkend en invloedrijk oeuvre na.
This work is widely recognized and is available in relevant collections, including the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the British Museum.
