  • About the artist

Dina Belga (born 1956) grew up at a time when Dutch art increasingly focused on personal expression and groundbreaking forms. She discovered early on her urge to create images that resonated not only visually but also emotionally and sensually. Her work moves between painting and object art, often balancing on the edge of recognizable forms and abstract suggestion.

Belga's oeuvre is characterized by her use of layering: paint, materials, and structures are constructed in such a way that a tension arises between vulnerability and strength. She frequently works with contrasts—light and dark, smooth and rough, closed and open—which always imbues her art with a certain dynamism. The viewer is invited not only to look, but also to feel and associate.

Throughout her career, Belga has exhibited in diverse settings, from intimate galleries to spacious museums, where the dialogue with the space and the audience always plays a role. Her work is often described as poetic and intuitive, yet also firmly rooted in social engagement: themes such as identity, nature, transience, and human connection recur regularly.

Dina Belga is an artist who doesn't follow established paths, but continually explores how material, color, and form can relate to each other and to the viewer. Her art is therefore not a static image, but a continuous process of change, perception, and experience.
