About the artist
Cornelis le Mair is a Dutch painter, born in 1944 in Eindhoven. He went to the Art Academy in Den Bosch but he left because he did not want to paint in the ‘free expression’ of the modernist style. He then went to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he was taught by Victor Dolphijn. He graduated cum laude in 1968. He specializes in still lives and describes his style as traditional. His work is inspired by that of the Old Masters. He also makes portraits on request and has done exhibitions in galleries and museums.
