  • About the artist

Maarten Boffé (born 1948, Tienen, Belgium) is a Belgian painter known primarily for his refined still lifes, but also active in portraits, landscapes, and seascapes.

He studied with Willem Dolphijn around 1976–1977 and was one of the founders of the Antwerp Fine Painting School in 1985. His work is characterized by a keen eye for detail and a high technical mastery of paint and materials.

In his still lifes, Boffé places objects (such as jars, glassware, fruit, paper rolls, and boxes) on a simple, even surface, often with a subtle touch of color that balances the composition. He sometimes weaves barely visible symbolic elements into his work, giving his paintings that extra touch of nuance. In his portraits, he reveals character and personality, while his landscapes and seascapes often convey a serene atmosphere.

Boffé's oeuvre is included in several private collections and is sold through galleries and art dealers. His work is appreciated for its combination of classical tradition, technical skill and a subtle style of his own.
