In "Father & Son," Fhatuwani Mukheli paints a single, unguarded gesture: a boy's hand resting against his father's cheek, their faces close, foreheads nearly touching. The two figures stand against a warm orange, hand-painted motif that curls around them like a frame. It belongs to a body of work that reflects on Black family life in the South African townships that raised him, where tenderness between father and son was its own form of presence.
