- About the artist
Giorgio Laveri, born in Savona in 1950, is a versatile Italian artist whose career spans cinema, theatre and visual arts. After training in film direction, in the 1970s he began painting murals depicting the situation of the Chilean people after the 1973 coup d'état. These works were exhibited in cities such as Milan, Rome, Brescia and Vicenza.
In 1973, Laveri founded the theatre group "Rosacroce" together with Nando Anerdi, with which he produced his first short film "La bella addormentata nel bosco", integrated into a satirical theatrical spectacle. From 1974 he devoted himself entirely to theatre and cinema, writing and producing eleven plays and nineteen feature films. One of his films, "Scommessa di matrimonio", won the Critics' Prize at the "Cinema in Casa" festival in Rome.
In the 1980s, Laveri began to translate his cinematographic experience into visual art, with a focus on ceramics. He created a line of ceramic objects with a cinematographic theme, which resulted in an exhibition organized by the Banque Nationale de Paris at the "Sala delle Quattro Colonne" in Milan.
Laveri is known for his large-scale ceramic sculptures of everyday objects such as lipsticks, fountain pens, and film reels. Often finished with glossy glazes and reflective surfaces, these works play with the contrasts between function and symbolism, and offer a critical reflection on consumerism and pop culture.
Throughout his career, Laveri has participated in over a hundred events worldwide, with exhibitions in both private galleries and important public spaces and museums. His work has been exhibited at the Complesso Monumentale del Pramàr in Savona, the Château-Musée Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer, and the Palais de la Méditerranée in Nice, among others. In addition, his works have been exhibited in Monte Carlo, Florida, Hong Kong, and Korea.
In 2016, Laveri received the Premio alla Carriera (Lifetime Achievement Award) from the Nobile Contrada del Nicchio and the Associazione Arte Vasai di Siena, in recognition of his contributions to the art world.
Giorgio Laveri’s work continues to evolve, constantly exploring new techniques and materials while remaining true to his multidisciplinary approach and his passion for combining art with elements of everyday life.
