Daphne du Barry is a Dutch sculptor who was born on 5 July 1950 in Arnhem. After her studies at the gymnasium in Arnhem, she studied at the University of Munich and then at Mac Gill in Canada.

At the age of 24 she started studying music and classical singing at the Conservatoire International de Musique in Paris, after which she started a short career in France. Later she enrolled at the Sorbonne in Paris, where she studied Modern Literature.

In Spain she was a model for some time and met the artist Salvador Dali. She posed for the surrealist artist and through him met her husband, Count Jean Claude Du Barry, a French art critic. A few years later they married. Her husband introduced her to the art world.

In the eighties she studied drawing for five years at the school of the Hungarian master Akos Szabo in Paris. And after meeting the sculptor Marcello Tommasi in Florence, she became his pupil. During this period she also enrolled at the Academy of Art and Design in the Medici. She started there making classically inspired and naturalistic sculptures. The ancient Greek sculptors are her great example. She prefers to use athletic models. "I try to achieve the highest degree of beauty with my images, so I won't be so quick to ask for fat models."

Daphné Du Barry subsequently exhibited her bronze sculptures in New York, Washington, Honolulu and Barcelona and at the Tefaf Maastricht at Galerie Mia Joosten. Her work is known for its lifelikeness in both form and size.

In addition, in recent decades she has won numerous monumental commissions in Europe, Asia and America. In Monaco, after their deaths, she made images of Prince Rainier and his husband Grace Kelly. Prince Albert even posed for her.

In the Netherlands she also made some images of Queen Beatrix, cheerful and casual on a bicycle on the Veluwe Posbank and a saluting Pim Fortuyn with his famous 'at your service' gesture.

Furthermore, Daphne Du Barry has had several exhibitions around the world, including New-York (1992), Honolulu (1989), Washington (1991), Barcelona (1991), Mexico (1989), Paris (2001), Amsterdam (2003) , Cascogne (2003), Milan (2006).

Her sculptures are now in private collections in the United States, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Norway, Mexico, Canada and China.
