  • About the artist

Marielle Yogi, born in 1987 in a small village near Maastricht, the Netherlands, is a versatile artist who works with painting, photography and illustration. Her work integrates elements of graphic design, collage and typography, resulting in a dynamic and eclectic style.

In 2016, Yogi graduated from the art academy in Maastricht. Between 2017 and 2019, she lived and worked in Hamburg as part of the art and design collective HAUS43. During this period, she regularly traveled to Uganda, where she was active as a yoga and art teacher. These experiences led to her ongoing project "Hidden Profiles", in which she paints portraits of the people she met in Nakivale and Kampala. Since the start of this project in 2019, she has created 35 portraits and donated 15% of the proceeds of each painting sold to the communities in Uganda, which has contributed to amenities such as sanitary products, food, clothing and art supplies.

Yogi's painting style is characterized by naive and quick lines and brushstrokes, with a focus on portraits, figurative and abstract works. She draws her inspiration from the environment in which she finds herself, resulting in a diverse and evolving artistic practice.

In 2022, she worked in a studio in Ibiza, where she created a new series of portraits of local people from Uganda. This series was exhibited in both Ibiza and Maastricht under the title "Hidden Profiles". In addition, she further developed her previous series "Humanity", combining paintings and graffiti to explore human experiences and emotions.

A significant period of personal and artistic growth took place in the cultural sanctuary Landbouwbelang in Maastricht, where Yogi was part of an art collective on the second floor for three years. Here she coordinated the space for painters and photographers, which helped her develop her painting style and expand her network with the aim of exhibiting worldwide. She has currently moved her work area to Utrecht, where she continues her artistic journey.

Yogi's work has been exhibited in several cities, including Cologne, where her exhibition "Boundaries Meets Body Language" took place at Kunsthafen in October 2023.

Her ongoing commitment to exploring human experiences and supporting communities through her art positions her as a dynamic and engaged artist within the contemporary art scene.
