About the artist
Ewoud de Groot (1969) was born in the Netherlands and studied at the Minerva Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen. He grew up in an area between the North Sea and the Wadden Sea, a vast tidal area that stretches from the north of the Netherlands to the south of Denmark. During his youth, he often went fishing and collecting mussels with his father. Under the immense skies and on the open water, he was deeply impressed by his surroundings. Painting and drawing wading birds as a subject therefore emerged naturally from these experiences.
Ewoud paints his subjects in a traditional way, while he shapes the landscapes in his work more abstractly and suggestively. He constantly experiments with different facets of composition, color and technique. His working method consists of building up layers, combining cool blue-gray tones with warm brown-gray tones. He starts with large brushstrokes and then uses a palette knife to further elaborate the composition.
He is a member of Pulchri Studio in The Hague (the most prestigious artists' association in the Netherlands), the Dutch Association of Maritime Artists, the Society of Animal Artists and the Bergen Artists' Association. Ewoud exhibits in both Europe and the United States, including the renowned exhibition Birds in Art at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin. His work is also part of various corporate collections in Denmark and the Netherlands.
Ewoud de Groot currently lives and works in the small North Sea village of Egmond aan Zee, where he continues to be inspired by nature and his surroundings.
