    Willem Constantijn Staring (1847–1916) was a Dutch artist and military officer renowned for his detailed watercolors and drawings depicting military life. His dual career provided him with a unique insider’s perspective, allowing him to portray soldiers, cavalry scenes, and especially horses with notable accuracy and authenticity.

    Staring’s work is characterized by precision, disciplined composition, and a keen eye for anatomical detail—particularly evident in his renderings of horses, which convey both strength and movement. His scenes often capture everyday moments within the military environment rather than grand battle narratives, lending his work a documentary quality.
