The Mother of Kazan with a silver oklad. Last quarter of the 18th century.
This wooden icon depicts the famous portrait bust icon of the Kazanskaja.
Icon appeared in 1579 in Kazan after Iwan The Terrible conquered the town on the Tartars.
In 1711 the icon was taken by emperor Peter The Great to St. Petersburg
and put in the newly established Kazanskaja Sobor.
The Kazanskaja is the patron of the Russian Housewives.
30,25 X 24,5 CM.
