Raoul Hynckes (1893, Brussels – 1973, Blaricum, The Netherlands) was a Dutch artist of Belgian descent.
He was a painter, pastellist, decorative painter, illustrator, engraver, graphic designer, woodcutter, furniture designer. He studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts (Academy of Fine Arts) in Brussels from 1907 to 1912. Primarily he painted in an impressionist style (dead trees, still lifes with skulls, etc.). Since the 1930s he belonged to the Magisch Realisme (Magical Realism).
He painted still lifes, cityscapes, village views, harbour views, figures, portraits, self-portraits. He also produced posters, postcards, children’s book illustrations.
Around 1916, Hynckes designed posters for Philips, also published as postcards.
Since 1923, he was a member of the Hollandsche Kunstenaars Kring (Dutch Artists Circle).
In 1973, he was awarded the Gemeentelijke Cultuurprijs Hilversum.
He wrote an autobiographical book, entitled De vrienden van middernacht, published in 1974 (De Arbeiderspers, Privé-Domein, number24).His works are in the collections of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Museum voor Moderne Kunst, Arnhem; Museum MORE, Gorssel. Hynckes is an important Dutch painter.
