  • About the artist

Tegel- en Fayencefabriek Amphora was a pottery factory in the Dutch municipality of Oegstgeest founded in 1908. The factory was closed in 1933.

It was founded by Messrs Van Sillevoldt and Perelaer. They became known, among other things, for a special glaze that did not or hardly crackle.

In the Holland-Rhine region, lime kilns and pottery factories were established along the Oude Rijn, which used the clay dredged from the surrounding polders to make bricks, roof tiles and pottery products.

After the Rozenburg factory in The Hague went bankrupt, Amphora took over part of the raw material.
