About the artist

Johnson Tsang (Hong Kong, 1960) is an internationally acclaimed sculptor known for his hyperrealistic and surreal sculptures in porcelain and stainless steel. With exceptional technical virtuosity and a pronounced imagination, Tsang creates three-dimensional narratives that balance between dream and reality.

His oeuvre is characterized by fluid movements, distorted facial expressions, and emotional moments that seem frozen in time. Tsang uses clay as an expressive medium to depict human vulnerability, inner struggle, and unexpected humor. Well-known series such as "Lucid Dreams" and "Open Mind" demonstrate how he effortlessly combines realistic anatomy with imaginative transformations.

For his visual language, Tsang draws on human emotion, social commentary, and the intriguing boundary between the visible and the subconscious. His sculptures evoke a direct, often intuitive response: emotion, recognition, or wonder.

Since his debut in the 1990s, his work has been exhibited worldwide in museums and art fairs, including in Asia, Europe, and the United States. His sculptures are held in numerous prominent private and corporate collections. Johnson Tsang is considered one of the most influential ceramic artists of his generation, thanks to his masterful technique and ability to make emotion tangible.
