Bernardus Hermannus David ‘Ben’ Walrecht was born in Groningen on 6 May 1911, he died in Hilversum on 14 September 1980. He was a Dutch impressionist painter and sculptor. After studying at the art academy Academie Minerva in Groningen, he began working as a commercial designer. He mainly painted cityscapes, landscapes and portraits. In 1936 he became a member of the art society De Ploeg. He bought a houseboat and went sailing throughout Friesland every summer, along with George Martens and Johan Dijkstra. In his art, he worked with various materials: stone, wood, clay, bronze, concrete. He exhibited with De Ploeg in Groningen until 1952 and afterwards his work was mainly shown outside Groningen, including Amsterdam, Enkhuizen and Loosdrecht. His work is included in the collections of the Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen and the Groninger Museum.
