  'Traveling in the mind', this is the subtitle of Alexander Bobkin's book. In this book you see a self-portrait with jokercap from 1987. At the height of his fame in the then Soviet Union, this artist makes a fool of himself. Do not take yourself too seriously, that's a sensible way of life. It sets you free. And freedom is a condition for the artist. The traveler in the mind can go and stand whereever he wants. An intriguing, enigmatic world, manipulated by the painter in brilliant compositions and warm colors. Nothing is what it seems to be.

  L'artista Alexander Bobkin (1952, Novokuznetsk, Russia) è nato in Siberia e ha visitato l'Accademia delle Arti di Jaroslavl. Bobkin è un viaggiatore che preferisce visitare zone ancora sconosciute. I suoi dipinti sono stati raccolti dal Museo d'Arte Moderna di Novokuznetsk, dal Museo d'Arte Regionale di Kemerovo e dal Museo Statale d'Arte Orientale di Mosca. Nel 1990 è arrivato nei Paesi Bassi e si è stabilito vicino al fiume Waal a Nijmegen, nei Paesi Bassi. Ora è un artista proveniente da un paese che non esiste più: l'Unione Sovietica. Bobkin offre una visione affascinante di un mondo misterioso e talvolta segreto, molto diverso dalla sua nuova patria. Le sue opere riflettono la vastità della Siberia in cui si può viaggiare per giorni senza che il paesaggio cambi molto o dove ci sono poche possibilità di incontrare qualcuno.
