Broer Dobbelsteen was a versatile Brabant artist who became especially known for his colorful and expressive paintings. Although he was originally trained as a designer at the academy in Eindhoven, he changed course in 1964 to fully devote himself to fine art. His work, which often revolves around human figures and abstract forms, stands out for its vibrant use of color and a highly distinctive, recognizable style. Until his passing in 2019, he remained a notable figure in the Geldrop region, where he spent many years building a body of work that still frequently appears among collectors and at art auctions.

Dobbelsteen’s oil paintings are known for their powerful, expressive character, strongly influenced by the CoBrA movement. He used a recognizable technique, often working with thick layers of paint (impasto) and a coarse, spontaneous brushstroke.

Broer van den Dobbelsteen (1936–2019), meglio conosciuto come Broer Dobbelsteen, è stato un artista olandese originario di Geldrop, che si è distinto per un linguaggio visivo vivace ed espressivo. Le sue opere sono caratterizzate da colori intensi, pennellate spontanee e un approccio diretto e intuitivo alla forma e alla composizione.
Dobbelsteen, spinto da una forte motivazione personale, ha sviluppato uno stile riconoscibile in equilibrio tra figurazione e astrazione. I suoi dipinti e disegni raffigurano spesso figure umane, paesaggi e scene di vita quotidiana, ma distorte e semplificate fino alla loro essenza. L'attenzione non era rivolta alla rappresentazione realistica, bensì alla carica emotiva e all'energia del momento.
Per tutta la sua carriera, è rimasto fedele a questo modo di lavorare libero e non rifinito. La sua opera irradia un senso di spontaneità e gioia di vivere, in cui colore e movimento giocano un ruolo centrale. Come artista, Dobbelsteen è riuscito a ritagliarsi un posto di rilievo nell'arte olandese del dopoguerra, con opere accessibili e al tempo stesso profondamente personali.
