    Deze rustende maar toch opmerkzame leeuwin is levensecht en levendig
    gebeeldhouwd uit één blok travertin marmer. Uniek exemplaar. Gesigneerd. Becquerel kreeg vooral bekendheid als animalier in de Art deco periode. Tussen 1914 en 1922 exposeerde hij op de Salon des Artistes Français. Becquerel was een leerling van Prosper Lecoutier, ook een dierenbeeldhouwer, en Hector Joseph Lemair.
  • About the artist

    André Vincent Becquerel was born at St. Andre-Farivilliers (Oise) in France. He studied under Hector Lemaire and Prosper Lecourtier. He specialised in animal sculpture; showing a marked preference for predator, feline and ornithological subjects, which he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1914 to 1922. He became a lifetime member of this Salon. He died in Paris in 1981.
