- About the artist
Evert Nijland, born in 1971 is a Dutch artist who is most renowned as a jewellery designer.
Nijland attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the Sandberg Institute, both in Amsterdam from 1990-1995. He has been a guest lecturer at both.
Nijland is known for using materials such as silver, silk, glass, porcelain, wood and gems. Often there is a relationship with classic jewellery from the sixteenth and eightteenth century. Nijland loves the Rococo and Baroques styles.
His style can be characterised as using both traditional techniques and current digital methods to create referential jewels containing a contemporary paradox. In this, he steers away from the smooth Dutch style, which has dominated the last decades in the Netherlands.
Nijland has received several international awards and his work is in the permanent collections of public collectors including CODA Museum, (Apeldoorn, The Netherlands), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Schmuckmuseum (Pforzheim), Victoria & Albert Museum (London), and Museum of Arts and Design (New York).
