The “Meggendorfer Blätter – Zeitschrift für Humor und Kunst”, published in Munich between 1888 and 1944, was a statirical weekly magazine of a high artistic level founded by artist Lothar Meggendorf. The magazine was full of illustrated jokes, short stories, poems, caricatures and cartoons made by a large number of well-known and less well-known artists. The humor of the Meggendorfer Blätter, in contrast to a magazine such as Simplicissimus, which appeared in the same period, was less political and is therefore understandable and funny still today.
