- About the artworkCALM ESTUARY WITH DUTCH SHIPS Drawing in watercolour and gouache made by Louis Haghe approx. 1880 after a painting by Jan van de Capelle from about 1650. Signed L. Haghe lower right. Size: 45 x 60 cm. In its original 19th-century frame. The Flemish history painter, watercolourist and lithographer Haghe (1806 - 1885) was educated at the Academy in Tournai and settled in England in 1823. There he had a decisive influence on the development of lithography and was appointed as Lithographer to H.M. the Queen. Nevertheless, from 1852 onwards he devoted himself exclusively to watercolor painting. He was President of the Royal Institute of Water Colours from 1873 to 1884. The painting by Jan van de Capelle "A River Scene with Dutch Vessels Becalmed", after which this work is made, is in the London National Gallery. Price: Euro 3.850,- (incl. frame)
