• About the artwork
  The lid with a pressed image of the emperor Napoleon with laurel wreath, NAPOLEON PREMIER EMPEREUR DES FRANCAIS around. With tortoise shell interior. The bottom decorated with a geometrical design.
  
  Snuff boxes and/or tobacco boxes were made in two sizes, ones for the pocket and the other, communal boxes, were made for table use. The lids were often decorated with a portrait, a classical theme, portrait miniature, hardstone inlays, or micromosaic panel.
