Emilia Maria Francisca (Emilie) van Kerckhoff was a Dutch artist, born in Zwolle on 26 January 1867. She died in Blaricum on 24 October 1960. She studied at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag. In 1898 she settled with her partner, the sculptor Saar de Swart, in Laren (Noord-Holland). She studied at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag. In 1898 she settled with her partner, the sculptor Saar de Swart, in Laren (Noord-Holland). In 1918 they moved to Capri (Italy), where they had lived and worked for many years. Van Kerckhoff travelled to many North African and Asian countries. In her drawings and illustrations, she depicted the everyday life of Java, Bali, Japan, India and Egypt. She also painted flowers, birds and butterflies. After Saar de Swart passed away in 1951, Van Kerckhoff moved to the Netherlands in 1954.
