    Gijsbertus Jan Sijthoff nacque a Delft il 6 agosto 1867 e morì a Laren (NH) il 14 ottobre 1949.

    Era uno studente dell'Accademia di BK a L'Aia, dopo di che gli fu insegnato da BJ Blommers. Sijthoff dipinse, acquerellò, disegnò e litografò ritratti, interni ed esterni, paesaggi urbani e paesaggi.

    Ha vissuto e lavorato a Scheveningen, Rijswijk, Delft, Heeze, Anversa e Bruges e infine a Laren (NH).

    Era membro di 'St.Lucas' e 'Pulchri', del Circolo d'Arte Olandese e dell'associazione di BK 'Laren-Blaricum'.

    Ha insegnato a sua moglie Johanna Bastiana van Rijswijk, AFAM Hiel e Maria Ch. J. Sterre de Jong.

    Viveva a Laren al Tafelbergweg numero 8 nella villa "Alberta". (Rubrica: Laren-Blaricum1938)
