The merchant and painter Simon van Brakel (1816-1884) was a member of the artistsociety Pictura and belonged to the School of Dordrecht, dominated by the painter J.C. Schotel. As a painter Simon was taught by his father Gerrit van Brakel, also a merchant as well as a painter of seascapes and member of Pictura as well. Oil on panel, signed.
A proposito di opere artista
Simon van Brakel era un pittore di origine olandese, nato il 24 dicembre 1816 a Dordrecht, nei Paesi Bassi. Era conosciuto sia come mercante che come pittore. I soggetti preferiti della sua mano includono paesaggi marini, navi e vedute del fiume. Nel 1869 il lavoro di van Brakels fu esposto all'Exposition générale des Beaux Arts. Van Brakel visse per tutta la vita nella città di Dordrecht e morì il 5 febbraio 1884.
