Sul l'artista
Nicolaas Roosenboom è stato uno degli allievi più talentuosi del paesaggista romantico Andreas Schelfhout, come risulta chiaramente dalle sue scene estive e invernali. Un orizzonte basso, l'attenzione per i dettagli narrativi e l'equilibrio tra primo piano e sfondo sono tutti tratti dal suo maestro. Il fatto che i suoi dipinti vendessero bene gli ha permesso di viaggiare molto in luoghi come Belgio, Germania, Inghilterra e Scozia. Per un po' lavorò anche con il pittore di bestiame belga Eugène Verboeckhoven.
