  • About the artist

Founded in Paris in the mid-20th century, Arlus quickly established itself as a beacon of French modernist lighting design. At a time when post-war Europe was rebuilding not just its cities but its aesthetic identity, Arlus brought together the elegance of traditional craftsmanship with the clean lines and optimism of mid-century modernity.

The name Arlus became synonymous with refinement — its signature lamps, sconces, and chandeliers blending sculptural form with functional clarity. Drawing inspiration from Art Deco, modernist geometry, and the emerging minimalist movement, Arlus creations often featured materials such as opaline glass, brass, and black lacquered metal, configured into harmonious, forward-looking designs that adorned chic Parisian interiors and international salons alike.

What set Arlus apart was its ability to bridge eras: its lighting fixtures feel both timeless and distinctly of their moment. Whether through the graceful curve of a reading lamp or the poised symmetry of a wall sconce, Arlus captured the essence of 1950s and '60s French design — stylish, spare, and effortlessly sophisticated.

Though the company eventually ceased production, Arlus's legacy endures. Today, its pieces are highly sought after by collectors, interior designers, and design historians, admired for their impeccable proportions, craftsmanship, and enduring modern charm. Each light is not just a source of illumination, but a sculptural celebration of French mid-century artistry.
