About the artist
Willem van Riet was a Belgian painter who born in 1887, he died in 1928. He was specialized in portraits, flower pieces, still lifes and allegories. He also was a talented aquarellist. An important source of inspiration in his art were women. He studied at De Academie in Antwerpen and in 1913 he was awarded the Prix de Rome. During the First World War, he lived in the Netherlands. Thereafter he settled in Antwerpen. In 1925 he exhibited at the “Exposition Triennale” in Ghent.
