About the artist

Louis Simon Willem van der Noordaa was born in The Hague on the 14th of February in 1894.

He was an illustrator and sculptor.
The Dutch artist was educated at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten (Academy of Arts) in Amsterdam.

He was a student of Carel Lodewijk Dake, Abraham Hesselink, Klaas van Leeuwen and Nicolaas van der Waay.
Louis Simon Willem van der Noordaa, himself was the teacher of Johannes Wilhelmus van Schaik.

Van der Noordaa started his artistic career in The Hague in 1897, from here on he travelled to Kopenhagen and even Bali for his work.
When he worked in Amsterdam he became a member of the Arti et Amicitiae.

In 1921, van der Noordaa won the second price for sculpting. He also won the Prix de Rome.

Van der Noordaa lived in Indonesia for the last years of his life and eventually died in Batavia on the 19th of November in 1945.
