Biography

About the artist

Rohn Meijer was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Before his seventh birthday, his family emigrated to Los Angeles, where the sunny climate and vibrant culture shaped his early years. At 22, he decided to return to Amsterdam to study ceramics at the Rietveld Academy. After earning his diploma, Rohn traveled to Italy for the first time, working as a designer of industrial ceramics and collaborating with renowned figures such as Mario Bellini. Alongside Ambroggio Pozzi and Joe Colombo, he designed an onboard dinner service for Alitalia.

After three years in Italy, Rohn returned to Amsterdam to work as a sculptor and taught industrial ceramics at the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven. His career took an unexpected turn when he was introduced to the world of fashion photography by photographer Jan Francis. Driven by a desire to deepen his knowledge, Rohn moved back to Milan, where his new career began to flourish. Franco Moschino gave him his first major assignment, and he soon attracted clients such as Neil Barrett, Philipp Plein, Diesel Black Gold, and Les Hommes. He also became the house photographer for Dsquared.

In addition to his fashion work, Rohn's extensive travels for "personal research" fueled a passion for photographing people from different places and cultures. This interest has taken him around the globe, including multiple trips to India, where his experiences culminated in the book project "The Colors of India in Black and White." This passion for capturing diverse cultures continues to inspire his work today and will undoubtedly do so for many years to come.
