About the artist

Pierre Raffy (1919, Algiers) was a French painter, collagist, draughtsman, sculptor and wall painter. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Algiers. He became friends with Albert Camus, Max-Pol Fouchet and Emmanuel Robles. In 1940 he settled in France, where he continued his education at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He returned to Algeria in 1949. The subject matters of his paintings are animals, animal portraits and fishes. He uses mixed media and mixed techniques.
