Lucie Wittig - Keyser
BiographyAbout the artist
Lucia Paulina Wittig-Keyser (1873–1951/1958) was a Dutch painter associated with the Laren-Blaricum artist colony, a community known for its intimate depictions of rural life and quiet domestic scenes. Working within this context, she developed a refined and sensitive approach to both still life and genre painting.
Wittig-Keyser’s oeuvre is characterized by carefully composed arrangements and a subtle handling of light and color. Her still lifes often convey a sense of calm introspection, while her genre scenes reflect everyday moments rendered with warmth and restraint. Influenced by the naturalistic tendencies of the Laren School, her work emphasizes atmosphere and simplicity over dramatic effect.
She typically signed her works as “L. Wittig-Keyser,” a practice that aligned with conventions of the time while lending her paintings a distinct and recognizable authorship. Today, her work contributes to the broader narrative of Dutch impressionist and realist traditions at the turn of the 20th century.
