About the artist
Jan Harm Weijns is seen as a typical Rotterdam impressionist. A painter who pre-eminently depicted streets and courtyards in the oldest parts of the city. He also painted landscapes, both in the Netherlands and in Switzerland and Italy, but he was most attracted to the landscape and the canals and ditches around Rotterdam. A few portraits of him are also known. Jan Harm Weijns was also a teacher at the Drawing Academy in Rotterdam, from which the 'Willem de Kooning Academy' later emerged.
