    Hiroomi Ito (Tokio, 1970) is een Japanse kunstenaar die in Barcelona woont en werkt. Zijn werk is direct herkenbaar aan de verfijnde composities en de nauwgezette techniek, die op het eerste gezicht de esthetiek van Nihonga – de traditionele Japanse schilderkunst – oproepen.

    Bij nadere beschouwing onthult Ito's werk echter een meer gelaagde beeldtaal. Gevormd door zijn lange verblijf in Catalonië, weerspiegelt zijn werk een voortdurende dialoog tussen traditie en ontheemding, Oost en West.

    Door middel van deze subtiele spanning onderzoekt Ito vragen over identiteit, geheugen en culturele afkomst, en creëert hij schilderijen die klassieke Japanse gevoeligheden combineren met een uitgesproken hedendaags en intercultureel perspectief.
