    The Belgian / Dutch painter Raoul Hynckes (1893-1973) initially painted mostly impressionistic harbors along the Belgian and Dutch coast and the IJsselmeer, like the river face. In 1914 he was conscripted to the front, but shocked by the violence of war, he deserted and fled to the neutral Netherlands where he continued to live the rest of his life. In 1924 he ended up in an artistic crisis. He broke with Impressionism and destroyed much of his work. In the thirties of the last century, he began painting still lifes in an extremely fine and meticulous style of painting. He is considered one of the Magic Realists and is represented in the collections of Museum MORE, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Arnhem Municipal e.v.a ..

    Raoul Hynckes (1893, Bruxelles – 1973, Blaricum, Paesi Bassi) è stato un artista olandese di origine belga.

    Fu pittore, pastellist, pittore decorativo, illustratore, incisore, grafico, taglialegna, designer di mobili. Studiò all'Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts (Accademia di Belle Arti) di Bruxelles dal 1907 al 1912. Dipinse principalmente in uno stile impressionista (alberi morti, nature morte con teschi, ecc.). Dagli anni '30 appartenne al Magisch Realisme (Realismo magico).

    Dipinse nature morte, paesaggi urbani, vedute di villaggi, vedute di porti, figure, ritratti, autoritratti. Ha anche prodotto poster, cartoline, illustrazioni di libri per bambini.

    Intorno al 1916, Hynckes disegnò poster per Philips, pubblicati anche come cartoline.

    Dal 1923 è stato membro dell'Hollandsche Kunstenaars Kring (Circolo degli artisti olandesi).

    Nel 1973 è stato insignito del Gemeentelijke Cultuurprijs Hilversum.
    Ha scritto un libro autobiografico, intitolato De vrienden van middernacht, pubblicato nel 1974 (De Arbeiderspers, Privé-Domein, numero 24).

    Le sue opere sono nelle collezioni del Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Museum voor Moderne Kunst, Arnhem; Museo ALTRO, Gorssel. Hynckes è un importante pittore olandese.
