  Born in the vibrant cultural hub of London in 1971, Chelsea Davine now calls the sun-kissed streets of Barcelona her home and artistic sanctuary. Drawing inspiration from the ephemeral beauty of everyday life, Davine’s work captures the essence of fleeting moments and overlooked details.
  The art critic Alex Bahna said that Chelsea wanted to bring out the whole harmonious, elemental process in her work, or as she puts it: “Make something beautiful and delicate out of something as uncompromising as steel, stone, copper or lead.”
  However it is not the purity and permanence of the metal that interests Chelsea, but how it ages. For her, metal is a canvas on which she studies the effect of time, water and oxygen - mixing diluted nitric and hydrochloric acid and using it to corrode the protective oily skin that preserves the surface of steel, then scratching it to encourage rust. From this, layer by layer, she creates three-dimensional abstracts 'paint sculptures' where textures and colours merge and change with alterations in the light.

  Chelsea vive e lavora a Barcellona, Spagna. La sua ispirazione sono i piccoli dettagli, spesso inosservati, che compongono la vita di tutti i giorni: fumo di comignoli, oro brunito, motivi sotto la vernice scrostata, scale rotte che non portano da nessuna parte, i segni del tempo incisi sul metallo, un sentiero attraverso un paesaggio arido... iniziare, gli strati e la trama continuano ad affascinarmi così come il processo.

  Il mio soggetto rimane lo stesso, il materiale stesso, la costa, il mare, le linee del desiderio che attraversano il paesaggio, il tempo e il suo effetto corrosivo sui materiali e la ricerca della bellezza in ciò che vediamo intorno a noi.

  Nel mio studio filtra il mondo, i colori, la luce, la politica, la religione, le persone. Le conversazioni rimangono con me, le mappe mi affascinano, i viaggi mi entusiasmano. Creare e dipingere è un imperativo e un’ossessione senza la quale non potrei vivere un giorno”.
