  New York is the culmination of cities of our time and Martí Bofarull has returned to it time and again in recent years. There is a cyclopean and overwhelming New York, and another one consisting of sombre buildings and opaque bridges. There is a cold bluish New York we can perceive from high above the sky scrappers, and a gaudy and variegated New York that vibrates around Times Square. Thus, the painter meets challenges without end, providing the viewer with endless journeys where new angles, details and corners of the city can be discovered.
  Martí Bofarull’s work incorporates the renovation of the urban landscape that has characterised Catalan painting of the last twenty years.
  Among the Catalan artists who have remained loyal to figurative techniques, several have successfully fixed their gaze on the architecture, streets and commercial trappings of the modern city. It is not just New York that attracts this artist. Birds eye views of Barcelona´s Eixample and vibrant squares are depicted. The richly textured paintings, layers of dripping acrylics, newspaper and wood transmit Bofarull´s views of urban life.

  Martí Bofarull (nato nel 1965 a Molins de Rei, vicino a Barcellona) è un pittore spagnolo la cui opera affonda le sue radici in una solida tradizione accademica, pur rimanendo sensibile alla luce, alla struttura e all'atmosfera. Nipote dell'illustre artista Carme Sala, Bofarull è cresciuto immerso in un ambiente intellettualmente e artisticamente rigoroso, dove la pittura era al tempo stesso disciplina e pratica quotidiana.

  Fin da piccolo, ha ricevuto un'ampia formazione nelle tecniche classiche, sviluppando una profonda comprensione della geometria, della prospettiva e della composizione. I suoi primi studi includevano anche la pittura en plein air, promuovendo un coinvolgimento diretto e intuitivo con il paesaggio e la luce naturale. Questa combinazione di precisione accademica e sensibilità osservativa continua a definire il suo linguaggio artistico.

  L'opera di Bofarull riflette un equilibrio tra struttura e spontaneità, in cui la chiarezza formale supporta un approccio silenzioso e contemplativo al soggetto. I suoi dipinti rivelano un dialogo costante tra tradizione e interpretazione personale, collocandolo all'interno di una stirpe di pittori che apprezzano l'artigianalità, la sobrietà e un'armonia visiva duratura.
