Guus Maris
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
About the artdealer
Born in The Hague 1953 studied law in Leiden to become an art-dealer in Amsterdam in 1978. From 1987 until 1991 he ran with his wife Galerie Maris at Prinsengracht 574, participating with Kunsthandel Wending in the FIAC in Paris 1988 and in ART BASEL 1990 and 1991.
Working with Leo Haks in the field of Indonesian painting they compiled the Lexicon of Foreign Artists who Visualized Indonesia (1600 - 1950) in 1995 and the Pre-War Balinese Modernists (1928 - 1942) in 1999.
For private reasons he auctioned his collection at a no reserve sale at Christies Amsterdam in 2006 "A dealer is selling off".
As it is in his blood, he restarted in 2008 producing art-books, catalogues and promoting the works of Tim Brown, Helen Gerardia, Frans van Ermengem and Cornelis Kloos.
Guus Maris, who published several short novels, poetry and a childrens book, has a continuing interest in paintings by artists who made more quality than they made fame.
In the process of phasing out, Guus Maris (72) is looking for a successor or somebody interested in purchasing the collection or parts of it, naturally for an interesting price.
