Traveling in the mind, this is the subtitle of Alexander Bobkin's book. In that book is a self-portrait with jokercap from 1987. At the height of his fame in the then Soviet Union, this artist makes a fool of himself. Do not take yourself too seriously, that's a sensible way of life. It sets you free. And freedom is a condition for the artist. The traveler in the mind can go and stand whereever he wants. An intriguing world, manipulated by the painter in brilliant compositions and warm colors.

O artista Alexander Bobkin (1952, Novokuznetsk, Rússia) nasceu na Sibéria e visitou a Academia de Artes de Jaroslavl. Bobkin é um viajante que prefere visitar áreas ainda desconhecidas. Suas pinturas foram coletadas pelo Museu de Arte Moderna de Novokuznetsk, pelo Museu Regional de Arte de Kemerovo e pelo Museu Estatal de Arte Oriental de Moscou. Em 1990 ele chegou à Holanda e se estabeleceu perto do rio Waal em Nijmegen, Holanda. Agora, ele é um artista vindo de um país que não existe mais: a União Soviética. Bobkin oferece uma visão fascinante de um mundo misterioso e às vezes secreto que é muito diferente de sua nova terra natal. Suas obras refletem a vastidão da Sibéria em que se pode viajar dias sem que a paisagem mude muito ou onde há poucas chances de encontrar alguém.
