Sales exhibition 'Jan Toorop and contempories' until April 10, 2026
Studio 2000 Art Gallery is pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition "Jan Toorop and Contemporaries" that runs untill April 10. Following the exhibition "The Worlds of Jan Toorop" at the Singer Laren, Studio 2000 presents a special sales exhibition featuring over forty works by this progressive and influential artist.
Jan Toorop is considered one of the most innovative figures in Dutch and Belgian art around 1900. His symbolic power, spiritual depth, and stylistic versatility made him a key figure in the modern art of his time. Born in Java and educated in the Netherlands and Belgium, he became a key figure in Symbolism and Art Nouveau.
His work is characterized by refined lines, spiritual themes, and a constant quest for innovation in form and style. Toorop moved in international avant-garde circles and played a significant role in the development of modern art in the Netherlands. In his later life, his Catholic faith became increasingly prominent in his artistic practice.
In addition to works by Jan Toorop, we present paintings and works on paper by artists from his immediate circle and kindred spirits, including Willem van Konijnenburg, William Degouve de Nuncques, Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig, and Floris Verster. Together, they provide a rich and multifaceted glimpse into an artistic network where Symbolism, Luminism, and early modernity intersect.
The sales exhibition runs from February 22nd to April 10th, 2026. We strive for a presentation of exceptional quality: paintings and works on paper with a special or distinctive theme, key works within the artist's oeuvre, and exclusively works new to the art market.
Studio 2000 Art Gallery is one of the leading galleries in the field of Dutch and Belgian art from around 1900.
