Johannes Rutten

Johannes Rutten was a Dutch artist who was born in Dordrecht on 31 July 1809, he died in Dordrecht on 6 October 1884. He lived and worked in Dordrecht. He was apprenticed to A. van Strij and G. A. Schmidt. He was a drawing teacher, painter and draughtsman of cityscapes, buildings and church interiors. He exhibited in Amsterdam and The Hague between 1830 and 1856. About 700 drawings and watercolours are included in the collection of the Gemeentearchief Dordrecht.
