Cornelis Schermer (1824, The Hague – 1915, The Hague) was a Dutch painter, etcher and draftsman. He studied under Cornelis Kruseman and J.E.J. van den Berg at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (Academy of Fine Arts) in The Hague, from 1841 to 1844. In 1875, he added staffage to a painting by Carel Jacobus Behr. Schermer was a genre painter, he painted horses, animals, barn interiors, landscapes. He was active in The Hague, and from 1880 to 1903 at Bouvignes-sur-Meuse, near Dinant (Belgium). One of his paintings Horses along the River was exhibited at the Internationale Kunstausstellung (International Art Fair) in Munich in 1892, and in The Hague in 1893. Schermer had several expositions in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam (1846-1903). His works are included in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; the Gemeentemuseum, The Hague; the Rijksprentenkabinet (drawings), Amsterdam.
