Pair of Dutch silver salt cellars

    François Marcus Simons
    Den Haag, 1804

220 grams, excluding blue glass liners
    13,5 cm wide

The boat-shaped salts are pierced and engraved with scrolling foliage and flower heads. They are fitted with two loop handles, standing on oval bases. Fully marked at the base and displaying assay stripes.

The skilled and productive The Hague master François Marcus Simons apparently made use of these typical loop-shaped handles for other silver objects, such as chestnut vases, mustard pots and cruets. This type of handles was derived from English examples.
