  Frits Schiller (1886 - 1971) was a renowned Amsterdam painter and, later, the manager of the hotel with his name on Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam. The building has Art Deco and Jugendstil-like elements in the architecture. Frits Schiller was a welcome man in Amsterdam, the city he loved. He attended the Rijksacademie with professor Dake and the artist Staller. His friends called him the best hotelier among painters and also the best painter among hoteliers. Artists came to the hotel and some were even regular guests such as Jan Sluyters, George Breitner, Piet van der Hem, and Leo Gestel. He made many portraits there, such as of Louis Davids, Cor van der Lugt Melsert and Gerard Sluyter. He also made many city views of Amsterdam and still lifes. A large number of works still hang in the hotel. Schiller was a typical exponent of his time with a realistic depiction but clearly influenced by Impressionism.

  Frits Schiller (George Friederich Ferdinand Schiller) era hijo de un próspero dueño de un establecimiento en Rembrandtplein en Amsterdam y se formó como pintor en esa ciudad. Pero cuando su padre murió en 1907, se hizo cargo de la dirección del negocio familiar con su hermano Hein y su hermana Elsa e hizo dividir el hotel-restaurante en cinco edificios convertidos en un todo en un estilo con muchos elementos Art Deco (durante mucho de ella todavía intacta). Sin embargo, además de su trabajo como director de hotel, Frits Schiller continuó pintando, aunque esa nunca se convirtió en su actividad principal.

  En Interbellum, el hotel y el restaurante experimentaron un apogeo; El Schillerbar se desarrolló a través del encanto del director artístico y el de su esposa actor en un punto de encuentro de la bohemia urbana. Escritores como Heijermans, Slauerhoff y Greshoff, pintores como Breitner, actores y humoristas, así como músicos y arquitectos, frecuentaban el restaurante de la familia Schiller. Frits Schiller ha creado más de 600 pinturas en un estilo inspirado en los impresionistas de Amsterdam de su juventud; aproximadamente la mitad de estos adornan el complejo Schiller en el restaurante, el vestíbulo y las habitaciones del hotel. Frits Schiller pintó retratos, bodegones y paisajes urbanos.
